One Heart Way Karate Academy

“Where Traditional Isshinryu Karate Matters”

IsshinRyu Karate

IsshinRyu Karate was originated in Okinawa Japan in 1956 by Tatsuo Shimabuku. Master Shimabuku took Shorin-Ryu and Goju-Ryu and put them together to create his own style, IsshinRyu. IsshinRyu means One Heart Way. IsshinRyu is the study of empty hand fighting focused on the development of one’s character. IsshinRyu teaches empty hand katas, weapon katas, self defense drills, along with sparring. When Tatsuo passed in 1975, his son Kirchiro took over the style and is still running it today.

Self-Confidence

Martial Arts are great for improving self-confidence, this happens through two area, as students’ progress through the belt ranks their belief and confidence grows. Also, by learning to defend themselves they feel more secure which greatly improves confidence.

Improve Fitness

Martial Arts are a great way to improve fitness, working every muscle in your body. Punching is great for your arms, back and shoulders; kicking is great for toning and strengthening the back and fronts of your legs.

Focus/Concentration

Focus/Concentration are the areas we work on with any student. The ability to focus and concentrate is necessary to be able to learn. We start by teaching the three rules of concentration: focus your eyes, focus your mind, and focus your body.

Respect

Students learn to get respect by giving respect and treating other people the same way we want to be treated. We learn to respect through parents and teachers most of all.

Self-Discipline

We instill and develop self-discipline/ This builds the attitude of knowing what to do and the ability to perform doing it without being told. Once starting in the Dojo, it will carry over to everywhere else.

Self-Defense

We teach to not just teach the physical techniques of self-defense, we also teach the attitude of self-defense, awareness and being able to spot potentially dangerous situations before they occur.
